Youth arrested with brown sugar in Naxalbari police operation

Naxalbari, 04th June: A youth was arrested with brown sugar during a police operation in Naxalbari after officers received information about suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, personnel from Naxalbari Police Station conducted a raid near the cremation ground at Kotiajote. During the operation, a youth was detained after his movements appeared suspicious.

A search of the accused reportedly led to the recovery of a packet containing a narcotic substance from his trouser pocket. Subsequent examination confirmed the substance to be brown sugar.

Police said a total of 51 grams of brown sugar was recovered from his possession. The seized narcotics are estimated to have a market value of over ₹1 lakh.

The accused has been identified as Dibakar Sikdar, a resident of Khalpara in Naxalbari.

A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act, and he has been arrested. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court. Investigation into the matter is ongoing.
