Jalpaiguri, 16th May: Asian Games gold medal-winning athlete and defeated Trinamool Congress candidate from Rajganj Assembly constituency, Swapna Barman, has sought police protection for herself and her family following the fire incident at her residence.
On Saturday, she visited Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station and submitted a written complaint expressing concerns over safety and security after the incident.
Speaking to media, Swapna Barman said, “I am feeling unsafe. I have requested police protection for myself and my family.” She also appealed to the state government to ensure their security.
The fire incident at her house on Friday night had created panic in the area. Since then, Swapna Barman and her family have reportedly been living under fear and anxiety.
According to police, forensic experts are being consulted to determine the cause of the fire, while investigation into the matter is currently underway.
