Kharibari, 16th January: A tragic accident occurred in Kharibari when a schoolboy was fatally run over by a truck while collecting donations for Saraswati Puja. The incident took place near the Bengal-Bihar border, in the area of Bhalukgara, when a truck traveling from Bihar to Kharibari struck the boy.

The deceased, identified as Surya Giri, a 10th-grade student of Kharibari High School, was among a group of students collecting donations from vehicle and truck drivers on the road. The truck did not stop and continued moving, crushing Surya under its wheels. Another student was also caught under the truck wheels but survived.

Consequently, the locals were outraged and Kharibari police arrived at the scene. The body was recovered and sent for post-mortem at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital. Although the truck was later seized, the driver remains at large.
