Bagdogra, 19th May: A highly decomposed and mutilated body was recovered from a drain inside a private tea garden in the Hanskhawa Bandi Jote area of Bagdogra, triggering panic in the locality.

According to reports, three youths who had gone to collect mushrooms in the morning spotted the body in the drain and immediately alerted the tea garden owner, who informed Bagdogra Police. Police and forest department personnel later reached the spot.

Locals said the body was found without hands, legs and head, and appeared to have been in a decomposed state for 4–5 days. The body was recovered and sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Questions have been raised over how the body ended up in the tea garden drain, with suspicion of murder and possible attempts to dispose of the body. Bagdogra Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
