Naxalbari, 03rd June: A monkey that had created panic across several parts of Naxalbari over the past four days was finally captured, bringing relief to local residents.

The animal had reportedly attacked and injured people in the Rathkhola, Railgate, Station, and Taltala areas. According to Forest Department sources, a total of 11 people were injured in monkey attacks during the four-day period.

On Tuesday alone, four more people were reportedly bitten by the monkey in the Taltala area, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to capture it.

As the situation worsened, personnel from the Tukriajhar Range launched a special operation from the morning to track and capture the animal.

After several hours of effort, a team of veterinarians from Bengal Safari Park successfully tranquilised the monkey using a dart gun. The animal was then safely rescued and taken into custody.

Forest Department officials said the monkey would undergo a preliminary health check-up and necessary treatment before being released into a deep forest area away from human settlements.

Residents expressed relief after the operation, saying they had been living in fear for the past several days due to the repeated attacks.
