Naxalbari, 02nd June: Panic has gripped the Rathkhola and Railgate areas of Naxalbari following repeated attacks by a monkey, which has reportedly injured at least seven people in the past three days.

According to local sources, the situation escalated further on Tuesday morning when three more people were reportedly bitten, increasing fear among residents.

Locals allege that the monkey has been behaving aggressively and suddenly attacking people without provocation. It has reportedly targeted pedestrians, vehicle drivers, including tractor and toto operators, as well as passengers passing through national and state highways.

Residents further claimed that the monkey has bitten people on hands and legs on multiple occasions. In one incident, it allegedly entered a school premises and attacked parents, raising concerns about the safety of children and daily school movement.

The repeated attacks have created widespread fear in the area, with many residents avoiding stepping out of their homes except for urgent work. The situation is said to be particularly tense during morning and evening hours in the affected localities.

Locals have demanded immediate intervention from the Forest Department, urging authorities to safely capture and relocate the animal to prevent further incidents.

Forest Department sources said the matter has come to their notice and monitoring is underway. However, the monkey has not yet been captured.
