Kwati Purnima Utsav 2022 celebrated in Siliguri’s Salbari

Siliguri, 12th August: People of Newari community celebrated Kwati Purnima Utsav 2022 on Friday in Salbari. Ganesh Pradhan was present as the chief guest in the program. GTA member Kalpana Pradhan, Methibari panchayat representative Rajesh Pradhan, Sanjay Mani Pradhan (retired colonel) were also present.

On the full moon day in the month of Shrawan, Hindus celebrate Raksha Bandhan while the Newars celebrate Kwati Purnima. It is an important day for the Newari people. It gets its name because people eat kwati (mixed bean soup) during the day. Kwati is consumed because it provides high protein to one’s body.

Furthermore, in the said program, meritorious students who excelled in secondary exams were felicitated. Reportedly, today’s program was conducted by Srijan Pradhan, while Puran Pradhan was the chairman of the program. Ashok Pradhan, secretary of the organization, gave a welcome speech in the program.
