Elephant calf separated from herd; triggers panic in Naxalbari

Naxalbari, 07th June: Panic gripped residents of Ketugabur Jote in Naxalbari after an elephant calf, separated from its herd, was found roaming in the locality on Sunday morning.

According to local sources, a herd of around 60 to 70 elephants had entered the area on Saturday night in search of food. While the herd later returned to the forest, the calf reportedly got separated and remained stranded in the locality.

The calf continued to move around the village from early morning, creating concern among residents. After being informed by locals, officials from the Panighata and Tukriajhar ranges, along with members of the Elephant Squad, reached the spot and initiated efforts to handle the situation.

The incident left villagers anxious as forest personnel monitored the calf and worked to ensure its safety.
