Darjeeling, 12th December: Senior citizens visiting Darjeeling’s iconic Mahakal Temple can now travel to the hilltop shrine in dedicated electric vehicles. The initiative follows Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s earlier announcement to introduce EV services for elderly tourists.

The service was officially launched as GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa handed over an electric vehicle to the Mahakal Temple Committee during the Darjeeling Melo Tea Fest event.

With the introduction of this facility, elderly devotees will now be able to reach the temple located at a higher altitude with ease. The move has been warmly welcomed by tourists, who described it as a significant convenience.
