Kharibari, 11th February: Kharibari police rescued 29 buffaloes from an alleged smuggling attempt and arrested one person. The accused, identified as Habibul Rahman, is a resident of Dalkhola in Uttar Dinajpur.

Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a lorry in the Batasi area near Kharibari. During the search, 29 buffaloes were found in the lorry. The driver was arrested after failing to provide valid documents for the animals.

According to police sources, the buffaloes were being smuggled from Bihar to Bangladesh. The accused was presented in the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kharibari police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
