Stray dog allegedly beaten to death in Siliguri, police launch investigation

Siliguri, 14th May: A stray dog was allegedly beaten to death by in Ward No. 23 of the Dabgram area in Siliguri, triggering concern and outrage among residents.

According to local sources, the dog had reportedly bitten several people on Friday. Following the incident, some residents allegedly attacked the animal with stones and bamboo sticks, resulting in its death. Despite attempts by others in the locality to stop the assault, the accused individuals allegedly ignored their appeals.

The matter was later brought to the attention of the Darjeeling District Legal Aid Forum. On Saturday, the organization’s president, Amit Sarkar, visited the area, spoke with local residents, and informed the police about the incident.

Subsequently, officers from Siliguri Police Station reached the spot and began an investigation into the matter. The dog’s carcass was recovered and sent to a veterinary hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, several residents stated that the situation could have been handled differently had the municipal corporation or the administration been informed in time about the dog’s aggressive behaviour. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
