‘Perinatal Brilliance’ conference held in Siliguri to advance maternal and neonatal healthcare

Siliguri, 21st June: A two-day conference on ‘Perinatal Brilliance’ was successfully held in Siliguri through the joint initiative of PamPearl Hospital and the Neonatology Society of West Bengal. Approved by the West Bengal Medical Council, the event brought together gynaecologists, paediatricians and neonatologists on a common platform, with a strong focus on strengthening coordinated maternal and newborn healthcare services.

The conference witnessed participation from several renowned national and international experts. Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. A.K. Deorari, a leading neonatologist from AIIMS, Dr. Arun Singh, Dr. Neerja Bhatla, and specialist doctors from various European countries. Discussions centred on advancements in maternal and neonatal care, management of high-risk pregnancies, and improvements in prenatal and postnatal treatment practices.

The programme featured a series of scientific sessions, panel discussions and interactive workshops, providing opportunities for medical professionals to exchange knowledge and clinical experiences. Experts highlighted that stronger collaboration between gynaecologists and paediatricians could significantly reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, improve the management of complex deliveries, and enhance the overall quality of neonatal healthcare services.

Organisers said that guided by the theme, “Safe Mother, Healthy Baby,” ‘Perinatal Brilliance’ was more than a scientific conference. They described it as an initiative aimed at fostering a new perspective on maternal and neonatal healthcare, with the potential to raise standards of perinatal care across North Bengal and other parts of the region.

Dr. Prince Parakh, Chief Organising Secretary of the conference and one of its key organisers, emphasised the need to view maternal and newborn health as a single continuum rather than as separate concerns. With this vision, a transition from ‘Neonatology’ to ‘Perinatology’ has been launched.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment among healthcare professionals to strengthen collaborative approaches in maternal and neonatal care, ultimately contributing to healthier outcomes for mothers and newborns.
