Mirik, 11th April: Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) Binay faction, General Secretary Anit Thapa led the ‘Change for Mirik’ mega rally in Mirik, on Sunday. Thousands of party supporters participated in the rally and marched across the town before turning into a public meeting.

During the meeting, chairpersons of 13 Gorkha sub-communities shared the same stage to which Anit Thapa referred to as a “historic event.” The representatives of the boards welcomed Thapa’s initiative to bring all the sub-communities on one platform. They stated that the party’s ‘Naya Soch, Naya Bichar’ (New thinking, new idea) ideology aims to unite the Darjeeling hills and to maintain peace and security in the hills.

“Change will not come easily,” General Secretary Anit Thapa said. He emphasized bringing a change in thinking for better deeds. Taking a jibe at his oppositions, Thapa asserted that today’s “historic unity meeting” was a big blow to the leaders who divided the Gorkhas into castes and sub-communities rather than bringing them all together as one.

Wishing for the Gorkha community to always stay united, Thapa appreciated the board chairpersons for supporting the initiative.
