Kharibari, 15th June: A Bangladeshi national was arrested by the SSB at the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari while allegedly attempting to enter India illegally through the Panitanki border point.

The arrested individual has been identified as Nandan Das, a resident of Madaripur district in Bangladesh. According to reports, he was intercepted by SSB personnel on Sunday during a routine check at the border.

Officials became suspicious after examining the documents produced by the accused during the crossing attempt. A subsequent search of his belongings led to the recovery of a Bangladeshi passport, an expired visa, a Bangladeshi SIM card, and a mobile phone.

According to SSB sources, Das had travelled from Bangladesh to Nepal in February through a middleman with plans to secure employment in Serbia. However, after failing to locate the middleman, he reportedly began working locally in Nepal.

The SSB detained him for attempting to enter India illegally and later handed him over to Kharibari Police Station. Based on a complaint lodged by the SSB, police formally arrested the accused.

He was produced before the Siliguri Court on Monday. Police have launched an investigation to ascertain further details surrounding the case and his movements.
