Alipurduar, 15th April: Thieves broke into a house in Kalchini block and looted valuables while the family was asleep. The burglars fled with gold earrings, ₹35,000 in cash, and a mobile phone. In a strange turn, the thieves also consumed ‘prasad’ kept in the house.

The incident occurred in the Hamiltonganj Netaji Pally area of Kalchini block, creating a sensation in the locality. During the robbery, all family members were asleep. The daughter of the house screamed after noticing an unknown person, but the intruders had already escaped before others woke up.

According to local sources, the theft took place late Monday night at the residence of Brij Kishore Sha. The thieves broke into a cupboard inside the house and took away the valuables while the family remained unaware.

In his statement, Brij Kishore Sha said, “We had no idea how the theft took place. My daughter saw a stranger in the house at night and screamed. By the time we reacted, they had already fled.”

Kalchini police have been informed and are investigating the entire incident.
