Naxalbari, 25th July: Restoration work has begun on a key rural road in Naxalbari that was damaged after the swollen Khemchi River washed away a portion of it during the monsoon.
The damaged stretch at Paschim Babupara serves as an important route for residents of around 10 villages, including Ketugabur Jote, Handibasti, Mallabari, Surajbar and Boro Maniram. The road was partially washed away following a rise in the river’s water level, disrupting connectivity in the area.
Following requests from local residents, the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti initiated the restoration work using its own funds. An amount of ₹1.77 lakh has been allocated for the construction of a 15-metre concrete guard wall and a 100-metre stretch of road.
