Leopard trapped after month-long scare at tea garden in Kharibari

Kharibari, 06th August: A leopard that had been causing concern among tea garden workers for nearly a month was finally trapped in a cage at Fulbari Tea Garden in Batasi under Kharibari late on Wednesday night.

According to reports, panic had spread in the area after tea garden workers repeatedly spotted the leopard in recent weeks. Following complaints, the Tukriajhar Forest Department had installed a cage near the factory line of the tea garden a few days ago.

The leopard was eventually trapped in the cage, bringing relief to the tea garden workers.

Later that night, the Elephant Squad team of the Kurseong Forest Department rescued the caged leopard. After conducting a health check-up, the animal was released into the deep forests of Panighata.

Tea garden workers, however, claimed that more leopards are still present in the area.
