Jalpaiguri, 02nd August: Complaints of soaring vegetable prices prompted a Task Force raid at Dinbazar market in Jalpaiguri city.
Accompanied by police, Enforcement Branch officials visited the market and inspected the wholesale and retail prices of vegetables, eggs and other essential food items.
Officials found that several vegetables were allegedly being sold at more than double their wholesale market rates. They interacted with vendors to know the reasons behind the steep price rise.
During the inspection, police and Enforcement Branch officials warned vendors against charging unreasonable prices. They stated that necessary action would be taken against those found overcharging customers.
The authorities said the drive was conducted to ensure that common people can purchase essential commodities at fair and reasonable prices.
