Holi rush drives record liquor sales in Darjeeling district including Siliguri

Darjeeling, 06th March: Record liquor sales were reported across Darjeeling district, including Siliguri, during the Holi festival, with sales crossing ₹11 crore within three days.

According to the Excise Department, liquor worth ₹11 crore 16 lakh 80 thousand was sold in the district from 02nd March to 04th March. On 02nd March, liquor sales stood at around ₹4 crore 10 lakh.

The highest sales were recorded on 03rd March with liquor worth approximately ₹6 crore 87 lakh being sold, while on 04th March the figure stood at nearly ₹1 crore 98 lakh.

During the Holi celebrations, heavy crowds were seen at wine shops from Siliguri to the hills, resulting in a sharp rise in liquor sales.

Sources in the Excise Department said that this year’s three-day sales figure is significantly higher than last year, setting a new record for liquor sales in the district during the Holi period.
