Baul artist launches awareness drive for peaceful voting in Siliguri

Siliguri, 16th April: With only a few days left for the 2026 Assembly elections, a Baul artist has launched an awareness campaign in Siliguri to promote peaceful and fair voting. Amid concerns over political tensions in various parts of the state, the initiative aims to encourage citizens to exercise their democratic rights without fear.

President’s Award-winning Baul artist Swapan Dutta, a resident of Purba Bardhaman, has already travelled across 17 districts, including Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Medinipur, spreading awareness about the importance of peaceful elections. He has now reached Siliguri, where he is using traditional Baul songs to inspire people to participate in the democratic process.

Through his performances, Dutta is urging voters to cast their votes fearlessly and responsibly. His initiative seeks to ensure peaceful and impartial polling across the state.

He aims to cover all 23 districts of West Bengal as part of his campaign. Notably, he is carrying out the awareness drive without accepting any remuneration, earning widespread appreciation for his dedication.

Speaking about his efforts, the artist said he is committed to promoting peaceful voting. He added that he had undertaken a similar awareness campaign during the previous Lok Sabha elections, which received a positive response.

Dutta expressed hope that his initiative would help prevent violence during the upcoming Assembly elections and strengthen the spirit of democracy.
