9 athletes from Kalimpong district shine in State Level Junior Boxing Tournament

Kailmpong, 27th June: A team of talented young boxers from Kailmpong district, under the guidance of coach Sanjeev Gurung and manager Sachin Fulangre, showcased their skills in the recently concluded state-level junior boxing tournament. The tournament, organized by the Purulia District Boxing Association, took place from June 23 to June 25.

Out of the nine participants, six boxers displayed remarkable performances and reached the finals in their respective weight categories. In the boys’ division, Julius Giri (48-50 kg), Shiv Karki (44-46 kg), and Pranish Pariyar (57-60 kg) secured their spots in the finals. Similarly, in the girls’ division, Karuna Rai (44-46 kg), Yangchen Tamang (48-50 kg), and Anjali Rai (52-54 kg) also advanced to the finals.

The hard work and dedication of these young athletes paid off as they returned with an impressive medal haul. Among the boys, Julius Giri clinched the gold medal, while Shiv Karki and Pranish Pariyar secured silver medals in their respective weight categories. In the girls’ division, Karuna Rai emerged as the gold medalist, Yangchen Tamang secured a silver medal, and Anjali Rai captured the gold medal.
